The Falling Asleep of Nicky Hondros

Nicky Hondros September 5th, 1934 - February 17, 2022 It is with great sorrow, yet with hope in the Resurrection, we inform you of the falling asleep of Ms. Nicky Hondros. Nicky Hondros went to sleep in the Lord on February 17, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 5, 1934, in Kalesmeno, Greece to Gregory and Eleftheria Kolokas. She came to the United States in 1955 to live with her uncle and aunt Constantine and Persephone Nichopoulos. She married the love of her life, Chris Hondros in 1959. Nicky was a lifelong member of the Philoptochos Society at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Winston-Salem, NC and served as their president. She loved being an active member in the church, and spending time with her many lifelong friends. Nicky was also an amazing bowler and was proud to display her many bowling trophies. She devoted her life to caring for her husband, daughters, and grandchildren. She was a phenomenal cook and loved to bake and try new recipes....

Serafim "Sam" Georgio Vlahos October 8, 1942 - February 16, 2022 It is with great sorrow, yet with hope in the Resurrection, we inform you of the falling asleep of  Mr. Serafim "Sam" Georgio Vlahos. Mr. Serafim "Sam" Georgio Vlahos, 79, fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. He was born October 8, 1942, in Fithakia, Evrytania, Greece, the son of Georgio and Konstandina Vlahos. He was married to Georgia Tsiogris in 1966 and immigrated to Winston-Salem in 1967 to start a family. He had worked at Reynolds Airport, Lowes Home Improvement, Jason's Deli, Sam's Club, and was the owner of Captain Toms in Thomasville.  A member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, where he was active and worked with the festival. GEORGE'S DESK   CONCERNING GODPARENTS   " Those of you who have been baptized into Christ, you have clothed yourselves with Christ; Alleluia ."   My beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, the role of the Godparent in the Orthodox Church is very crucial. As the original Greek term Aνάδοχος (=Νονός / Νονά in modern Greek) signifies, the Godparent is the person who receives in his/her arms the newly baptized infant in the Sacrament of the Holy Baptism. Since the introduction of the infant Baptism, the Godparent assumes the very important responsibility of guiding and bringing up, together with the parents, in a harmonious cooperation, the infant within the Orthodox Church, her Teaching, Tradition, and her liturgical and sacramental life.
