“ I Confess Directly to God ”
by Fr. Mousa Haddad, Proistamenos, of St. Mary Orthodox Church (Antiochian)
   Fr. Mousa teaches us that the Holy Orthodox Church has practiced the sacrament (mysterion) of Holy Confession since it was instituted by Jesus Christ 2,000 years ago.  Of course, we can confess our sins privately to Christ but the Church teaches that our sins are only forgiven in the Sacrament of Confession.   The Church is a hospital where those who are spiritually sick go to the “doctor” to be diagnosed and to have spiritual medicine prescribed for us for the healing of their broken relationship with God.  Many of us, unfortunately, are more ashamed of confessing to our confessor priest than we are of having sinned  against Christ.

Falling Asleep of Fotini Bobocharis

Fotini Bobocharis March 27, 1929 -  July 25, 2024 It is with sadness, but with hope in the Resurrection, that we inform you that our beloved sister in Christ, Fotini Demetrios Bobocharis, 95, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after many visits with family and friends.  Fotini was born on March 27, 1929, in Karpenisi, Evrytania, Greece to the late Demetrios Bobocharis and Artemisia Chamis. She grew up in Karpenisi, Greece where her parents owned the town’s successful bakery. Fotini survived two wars while living in Greece, but she persevered and came to the United States with her sister Marika in 1955 to begin a new life filled with opportunities that the U.S. could give them. Fotini was a proud Greek woman, a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, godmother and friend. The entire Greek community was her family.    Fotini was a lifelong devoted member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was...
