The Falling Asleep of Vasilios "Bill" Dennis Fallis

It is with sadness, but with hope in the Resurrection, that we inform you that our beloved brother in Christ, Mr. Vasilios “Bill” Dennis Fallis, 86, of Kernersville, NC, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025. Bill was born in Klafsion, Evrytania, Greece on April 18, 1938, to the late Dionisios George Fallis and Amalia Tsitouris Fallis.

Bill immigrated to the United States in 1954, joining his father in Danville, VA. He worked in many restaurants in both Danville and Winston-Salem, learning the trade alongside his fellow Greeks before settling in Kernersville in 1965. There, he purchased Spiros Café at 108 N Main St. In 1967, Bill married his partner in life and business, Bessie Dimos in Greenville, SC. They later renamed the restaurant to Bill’s Pizza Restaurant, introducing pizza to the small town. This decision was inspired by Bessie’s craving for pizza during her first pregnancy and the long drive to Winston-Salem to satisfy it. They eventually changed the name to Bill's Family Restaurant, expanded the dining room, and introduced a diner style menu with daily specials that combined southern cuisine and traditional Greek recipes. Bill and Bessie served the Kernersville community until their retirement in 2000. In retirement, Bill could be found at the YMCA, the Fourth of July Park, watching the stock market or having coffee with his friends at other Greek restaurants. Bill was an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Winston-Salem serving on the Parish Council and the Foundation board as treasurer and volunteering countless hours in the kitchen for the festival and other events. He was a lifelong chanter and was honored with the title “Protopsaltis” in the Orthodox church, living his faith proudly. He was also a longtime member of the Evrytanian Association of America, serving on its board for many years.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, John and Dora Fallis. Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 57 years, Bessie Dimos Fallis; daughter, Amalia Kythas and husband, Leon of Wake Forest, NC; son, Dennis Fallis and wife, Catherine of Raleigh, NC; and grandchildren, Peter Kythas, Nicole Kythas, and William “Bill” Fallis.

A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Minas Tsambounieris and Rev. Fr. Demetri Kangelaris officiating. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church with a trisagion service immediately prior to the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Bill to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church Foundation, 435 Keating Dr, Winston-Salem, NC 27104
