Nicholas Thomas Mathes March 1, 1934 - June 14, 2024 It is with sadness, but with hope in the Resurrection, that we inform you that our beloved brother in Christ, Nicholas Thomas Mathes "Nick", 90, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully in his home on June 14 surrounded by his family's love. Nick was born March 1, 1934 in Klapsi, Greece to Thomas Nicholas & Fotini Hamberis Mathes. His early years were spent in his beloved village of Klapsi, where he expressed his adventurous and mischievous spirit accompanied by his equally mischievous friends, many of whom he remained close to until the end. During the Greek Civil War, Nick was separated from his family fleeing a siege in Karpenisi. His family frantically searched for him, fearing he'd been captured by the Communist Party. Fotini Bobocharis March 27, 1929 - July 25, 2024 It is with sadness, but with hope in the Resurrection, that we inform you that our beloved sister in Christ, Fotini Demetrios Bobocharis, 95, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after many visits with family and friends. Fotini was born on March 27, 1929, in Karpenisi, Evrytania, Greece to the late Demetrios Bobocharis and Artemisia Chamis. She grew up in Karpenisi, Greece where her parents owned the town’s successful bakery. Fotini survived two wars while living in Greece, but she persevered and came to the United States with her sister Marika in 1955 to begin a new life filled with opportunities that the U.S. could give them. Fotini was a proud Greek woman, a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, godmother and friend. The entire Greek community was her family. Fotini was a lifelong devoted member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was...
