Maria Karanikas Liontis - Funeral Service Monday, November 20, 2023

 

Maria Karanikas Liontis, 93, peacefully embraced eternal rest on Friday evening, November 17, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.  Born on June 4, 1930, in Papadia Evrytania, Greece, Maria, the daughter of Nikolaos and Yianoula Karanika, embarked on a journey that led her to the United States, where she settled in Winston Salem with her family in 1971. 

Dedicating numerous years to her craft, Maria served as a skilled seamstress at Norman Stockton, leaving a legacy of craftsmanship.  A devout member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and the esteemed Philoptochos Society, Maria's faith and philanthropy were central to her life.

Preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and two sisters.  Maria is survived by her loving husband, Tryfon Liontis, her son Sam and wife Litsa Liontis of Winston Salem, and daughter Koula and husband Father Deacon George Politis of Charlotte.  Her enduring spirit lives on through six grandchildren: Maria and husband Yuyi, Nik and fiancé Nicole, Marianna, Travis, Katherine, and Lillia.

Her memory is further cherished by two sisters, Elefteria Karagiorgis of Winston Salem, and Theodora Skenteris of Greece, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

A heartfelt visitation will commence at 10 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11 AM on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.  The service will be officiated by Father George Kouzelis and Father Deacon George Politis.  Interment to follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.
