The Falling Asleep of Mr. George William Beskas

It is with great sorrow, yet with hope in the Resurrection that we announce the falling asleep of Mr. George William Beskas. 

Mr. George William Beskas, 90, of Clemmons, N.C. passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2023. George was born in Nemea, Corinth, Greece. At a young age, George came to the states to reside with his Uncle Nick Beskas in Greely, Colorado. Upon graduating from high school, George enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the aircraft carriers USS Intrepid and USS Coral Sea as an electronics technician. Following his discharge, George utilized his GI Bill and worked part-time to earn his Electrical Engineering degree from the Central Institute of Technology in Missouri. Following graduation, George gained employment at Martin Marietta in Denver, Colorado as an instrumentation engineer for a research and development program, developing the intercontinental Titan I & II ballistic missiles. In 1965 George joined Western Electric as an electrical engineer responsible for the power requirements of the AT&T telephone companies' central offices for the western states, until his retirement in 1996 from Lucent Technologies. Mr. Beskas was a lifelong member of the Greek Orthodox Church and the Fraternal order of AHEPA. In Denver, George served many years at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in various capacities of the parish council. His life was exemplified by his generosity and kindness through assisting others. Most important to George was his love, loyalty, and devotion to his beloved family. George was very close to his wife, children, and grandchildren, all of whom he adored. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Michael and his beloved wife of 57 years, Demetra Beskas. He is survived by a daughter Connie Marshall (husband Scott), a son William G. Beskas (wife Anita), and four grandchildren that he loved very much, Alexander, Jasmine, Austin, and Brandon.


A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, February 17, 2023 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. George Kouzelis and Rev. Fr. Constantine Shepherd officiating.  A Trisagion Service will be held at 11:50 AM before the funeral service. Interment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park  The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 AM Friday at the church before the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 435 Keating Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
