Our beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,
Αs you may already have been informed by the news, the Turkish government has finally decided to convert into an Islamic Mosque the Holy & Great Church of the "Wisdom of God", our Hagia Sophia, the holiest and most sacred Symbol of Hellenism Orthodoxy. This tragic "inauguration" of the conversion of Hagia Sophia to a Mosque, has been scheduled for next Friday, July 24, 2020. As a consequence, the Holy Eparchial Synod, with deep sadness, calls upon us, ALL the faithful of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, to observe next Friday as a day of mourning and manifest grief. As per the Holy Eparchial Synod's request, we would like to inform you that we will chant the Service of the Akathist Hymn to the Most Holy Theotokos on this coming Friday, July 24, 2020, at 6 pm, in our Annunciation Church. For those who don't yet feel comfortable to come to the Church because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will livestream the Service. At this moment of great sorrow, let us all turn in prayer to our Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, our beloved Panagia, Who is the "Joy of all who sorrow". Let us all pray to Panagia to continue, more so now, to intercede to Her Son and our God, for all of us, and especially for the Holy and Great Church of Christ, the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. AMEN!
Αγαπητοί μας εν Χριστώ αδελφοί,
Όπως θα έχετε ήδη ενημερωθεί από τις ειδήσεις, η τουρκική κυβέρνηση αποφάσισε τελικά να μετατρέψει μετά από 86 ολόκληρα χρόνια την Μεγάλη Εκκλησία της του Θεού Σοφίας, την Αγία Σοφιά μας, το ιερό Σύμβολο του Ορθοδόξου Ελληνισμού, σε ισλαμικό τέμενος. Τα τραγικά αυτά «εγκαίνια» της μετατροπής της Αγίας Σοφίας, ως τζαμί πλέον, είναι προγραμματισμένα για την ερχόμενη Παρασκευή, 24 Ιουλίου, 2020. Γι' αυτό, η Ιερά Επαρχιακή Σύνοδος, με αίσθημα πόνου, καλεί όλους εμάς, τους πιστούς της Ελληνορθόδοξης Αρχιεπισκοπής Αμερικής, να τηρήσουμε την ερχόμενη Παρασκευή ως ημέρα πένθους και έντονης θλίψης. Επιπρόσθετα, σας ενημερώνουμε ότι, κατά την προτροπή της Ιεράς Επαρχιακής Συνόδου, την ερχόμενη Παρασκευή, 24 Ιουλίου, 2020, στις 6 το απόγευμα, θα τελεσθεί στον Ιερό μας Ναό του Ευαγγελισμού, η Ακολουθία του Ακαθίστου Ύμνου προς την Υπεραγία Θεοτόκο. Για όλους όσοι δεν αισθάνονται ακόμη άνετα, εξαιτίας της πανδημίας του Κορωνοιού, να προσέλθουν την Παρασκευή στην Εκκλησία, θα αναμεταδώσουμε ζωντανά την Ιερή Ακολουθία μέσω της Ιστοσελίδας της Εκκλησίας μας. Σε ετούτη τη στιγμή της μεγάλης θλίψης, ας απευθυνθούμε όλοι μας προσευχητικά στην Κυρία Θεοτόκο, την καλή μας Παναγία, η Οποία είναι «πάντων θλιβομένων η χαρά», και ας την παρακαλέσουμε να συνεχίζει να μεσιτεύει στον Υιό της και Θεό ημών, για όλους εμάς, και κυρίως για την Αγία του Χριστού Μεγάλη Εκκλησία, το Σεπτό μας Οικουμενικό Πατριαρχείο Κωνσταντινουπόλεως.
