Falling Asleep of Nicholas Thomas Mathes

  Nicholas Thomas Mathes  March 1, 1934 - June 14, 2024 It is with sadness, but with hope in the Resurrection, that we inform you that our beloved brother in Christ, Nicholas Thomas Mathes "Nick", 90, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully in his home on June 14 surrounded by his family's love. Nick was born March 1, 1934 in Klapsi, Greece  to Thomas Nicholas  & Fotini Hamberis Mathes.  His early years were spent in his beloved village of Klapsi, where he expressed his adventurous and mischievous spirit accompanied by his equally mischievous friends, many of whom he remained close to until the end. During the Greek Civil War, Nick was separated from his family fleeing a siege in Karpenisi.  His family frantically searched for him, fearing he'd been captured by the Communist Party.  Fortunately, Nick had fallen into the Greek Nationalist Camp & was safely returned to his family after 3 terrifying days. Program Update: Paraklesis, Vespers and Divine Liturgy

  XPICTOC ANECTH! Paraklesis will be held on Wednesday, June 12th , beginning at  6pm  instead of Thursday, followed by  Great Vespers for the Feast of the Ascension. Also join us for Orthros and Divine Liturgy for the Feast of the Ascension Thursday, June 13th, beginning at 8:45am .  Reminder, there will be NO Liturgy on the morning of June 12th.

Vacation Church School! June 10-13

XPICTOC ANECTH! We are excited and looking forward to our Vacation Church School! Why Vacation  Church  School?  Our Orthodox Christian Faith is rich! We teach our children about the Saints, Feast Days, Holy Traditions, Holy Sacraments.. to name a few.  These are all relating to the  "Church"  not just the Bible, or the Scripture; therefore, we have VCS - Vacation Church School. Theme: Our theme for VCS this year revolves around the Holy Ascension of Our Lord. Lessons on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will lead up to the Feast Day on Thursday June 13th, where we will participate in the Divine Liturgy that day, with a party to follow immediately after Divine Liturgy Dates:  June 10th - 13th, 2024, Monday through Thursday Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (6/10, 6/11, 6/12) : 1- 4 pm  Thursday (6/13) : Holy Ascension- Orthros & Divine Liturgy at 8:45am,  Pizza and Ice Cream Party immediately following Divine Liturgy! Deadline for Sign Up and Cost: Sunday, June 9th, 2024 - $20
